Mumbai's BEST to increase bus services

Mumbai, Mar 5 (ANI): The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking is all set to get double-decker and air-conditioned buses.

The BEST has sought Rs 300 crore under the Centre's Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) for purchasing 1000 buses, of which 200 will be air conditioned.

BEST General Manager Uttam Khobragade today said that we expect to place the orders for the buses by the end of March. By June we should have 1,000 new buses on the road.

At present, BEST has a fleet strength of over 3,000 buses.

In a proposal submitted to the BEST committee on Monday, the company has sought advertising rights on the exteriors and interiors of the buses and at 1,000 bus stops across the city. (ANI)
