US to ease work permit norms for nurses

Washington, Mar 2: Giving a moral boost to Indian nurses aspiring to work abroad, a resolution has been introduced in the US House of Representatives for the creation of a special non-immigrant visa category for registered nurses.

If passed the bill would facilitate faster availability of nursing visas to registered and practicing nurses from nations like India, China and Philippines. The resolution introduced by Congressman John Shadegg was co-sponsored by Congressmen Jeff Flake and Ed Pastor.

At present America is facing a massive shortage of nurses. The legislation proposes for a new category of visas for registered nurses with an annual limit of 50,000.
