Kathleen Sebelius new US Health Secretary

Washington, Mar 1: Barack Obama, the President of United States appointed Kathleen Sebelius as Health Secretary. She is presently the Governor of Kansas. The President will make the official announcement on Monday, Mar 2 at the White House. 60-year-old Kansas Governor was an early supporter of Obama's Presidential bid. Before taking office as governor Sebelius was Kansas Insurance Commissioner.

Sebelius nomination came just days after the US President presented his budget for 2010, in which he allocated $634 billion over 10 year to finance reforms to make health coverage more affordable and move the towards universal coverage. On Thursday, Mar 5 Obama will hold a bipartisan summit for policymakers and legislators to discuss reforms to correct America's ailing healthcare system.
