15 docs booked for syringe scam in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, Feb 27: Fifteen doctors have been booked by Ahmedabad city police on Friday, Feb 27 for using the used syringes which led to the outbreak of Hepatitis B in Modasa town.

The outbreak of the disease had claimed 38 lives. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation also sealed 15 clinics of private doctors and recovered over 10,000 kgs of used syringe from raids. Large quantity of used syringes were sealed from five godowns of scrap dealers.

The operation was jointly carried out by district health officials, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation officials and police.

Chief District Health Officer of Ahmedabad, Dr R R Vaidya revealed that they have sealed five godowns, which contained large quantity of bio-medical waste, used syringes and needles.

However, no formal arrests have been made so far.
