Recession: Future gets bleak for IIM-A students

Ahmedabad, Feb 26: Panic has gripped the students of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) as only 10 companies made 20 offers on 'zero day' compared to 30 companies over 90 offers last year. The highest salary that was offered last year was Rs 1.44 crore as against highest salary of Rs 25 lakh per annum this year.

Very few companies are turning out to hire and this has shocked the faculty and 250 students of 2007-09 MBA batch. The companies that approached IIM-A on Wednesday, Feb 25 was McKinsey and Booz Allen Hamilton.

The companies that have made pre-placement offers include L&T and Delight Engineering.

Inside sources in IIM-A revealed that the highest offer made on the day worked out to less than Rs 25 lakh per annum.

A distraught student coordinator said, “Students are willing to take anything which is offered. Forget sectors of our choice, we are not even sure of getting decent offers."

The possibility of foreign companies hiring is very bleak, said a professor at IIM-A.
