Post Godhra, I saved Modi's job: Thackeray

Mumbai, Feb 26: Bal Thackeray, Shiv Sena supremo claimed that it was he who advised senior BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP) leader and Prime Ministerial candidate, LK Advani to retain Narendra Modi after the infamous Godhra train carnage in Gujarat. He said that Advani wanted to expel Modi from BJP after the massacre.

In an article in Sena mouthpiece 'Saamna' Thackeray claimed that he said to Advani, 'Modi gaya toh Gujarat gaya" (If Modi is removed then Gujarat will go out of BJP's hand).

Thackeray's reference to Modi is significant as he is in charge of the BJP's Lok Sabha polls campaign in Maharastra. Snubbing him, Bal Thackeray said that Modi cannot replace Pramod Mahajan and BJP will always miss him. He was reponding to BJP leader Gopinath Munde's statement that in Narendra Modi, Maharashtra will find a new leader like Pramod Mahajan.
