Aiyar acknowledges need for devolution of powers to local self-Govts
New Delhi, Feb 25 (ANI): Union Minister for Panchayat Raj, Youth Welfare and Sports Mani Shanker Aiyar has acknowledged the need for strengthening Panchayati Raj institutions by devolution of financial and legislative powers.
Inaugurating a conference on Panchayati Raj in New Delhi on Wednesday, he said it has been globally accepted that local self-government is a best form of governance and therefore the spirit of 73rd amendment of the constitution must be implemented in letter as well as spirit.
Aiyar also released a book on Panchayati Raj and Local Governance.
The two-day conference, attended by dignified policy makers and other stakeholders, is expected to discuss on the various ways and means to strengthen Panchayati Raj institutions across the country. (ANI)
