President, PM congratulate 'Slumdog Millionaire' team

New Delhi, Feb 23 (ANI): President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today congratulated the team of 'Slumdog Millionaire' which created a sensation by winning eight Oscars.

The President is happy that 'Slumdog Millionaire' has won Oscars in various categories, a Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesperson said.

"The President is specially thrilled with the remarkable feat achieved by A R Rahman, Gulzar, Resul Pookutty and making India proud," spokesperson added.

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said the entire team of the film including musician A R Rahman have done India proud.

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said winning eight Oscars was one of the most pleasant news for India.

"It is great pleasure, it is one of the most pleasant news for us," he added.

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee also congratulated the Slumdog team on bringing laurels to India by winning the Oscars.

The film bagged eight awards, including two Oscars for Rahman for Best Original Score and Best Song for the song "Jai Ho", which was penned by lyricist Gulzar.

Pookutty, a sound technician from Kerala, won the Oscar in the Sound Mixing category.The movie also won the award for Best Film, Best Director for Danny Boyle and Best Adapted Screenplay for Simon Beaufoy. (ANI)
