Muslims protest for ill-treatment in Lucknow

Lucknow, Feb 21: Muslims staged a massive rally in Lucknow on Friday, Feb 20 contending that they are being targeted for the recent spate of terror attacks in the country.

Holding banners, demonstrators from Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh District presented a memorandum to Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeshwar.

They refused to meet Chief Minister Mayawati, accusing her of targeting innocent community members.

"We presented a memorandum to the Governor and don't want to meet the chief minister," said Azhar Madani, a Muslim cleric.

In the wake of Mumbai attacks some localised Islamist groups claimed responsibility.

This acknowledgment has led the community to believe that they are being unfairly targeted.
