Holbrooke says Taliban safe heavens on the rise in Pakistan
Washington, Feb. 19 (ANI): U.S. special envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Holbrooke has said that the number of safe havens is on the rise in Pakistan.
Holbrooke said this during a meeting held here to review U.S. policy for Pakistan and Afghanistan and was attended by General David Petraeus and other officials.
Success in Afghanistan is not possible only through use of military means, The News Quoted Holbrooke as saying.
He said extremists responsible for 9/11, Mumbai attacks and occupation in Swat stem from same roots.
"Those occupying Swat are bad people and we are much concerned over the situation," Richard Holbrooke said.
Earlier Holbrooke was on a visit to the region to study the latest situation to enable Washington to shape its policy towards Pakistan and India.
The US has made it clear that Kashmir is not on the agenda of Holbrooke"s visit and would not be discussed during his stay in New Delhi, allaying concerns here that the US could try mediation between India and Pakistan on the issue.(ANI)
