HAL displays indigenously designed advanced light helicopter
Bangalore, Feb 16 (ANI): Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has displayed indigenously designed advanced light helicopter (ALH) Dhruv at the Aero India 2009.
Dhruv has been developed for India's armed forces.
An HAL official Colonel G. Gupta said, "This advanced light helicopter is a 5.5 ton class of helicopter. It can be used in various roles for communication, as an ambulance or in some specific role like offshore operations."
Dhruv is capable of flying at high altitudes, a crucial requirement for the Army, which requires helicopters for operations in Siachen Glacier and Kashmir.
Dhruv has stub wings fitted to carry up to eight anti-armour missiles, four air-to-air missiles or four rocket pods for 70mm and 68mm rockets. (ANI)
