BSF begins border fencing in Dubri to check infiltration

Dubri (Meghalaya), Feb 15 (ANI): Border Security Force personnel in Assam have begun fencing a 7.9 kilometer long stretch along the India-Bangladesh border to curb infiltration.

The permanent fencing in the Dubhri region of Assam is expected to cost 250 million rupees.

"We have a very laid down system for fencing. We will be having gates every one kilometre and those gates will be manned by our troops and the fencing will be patrolled. On those gates, we will be maintaining registers and also the farmers, going there. They will be properly checked and they will be permitted to go beyond the fencing," said Ravi Gandhi, Commandant, Border Security Force (BSF).

According to the BSF, most villagers living in Dubhri indulge in smuggling and other illegal activities in league with Bangladeshi nationals.

The two countries share a 4,000-km-long porous border that passes through jungles and rivers.

New Delhi has often accused Bangladeshi militants of conducting attacks in India, mainly in its northeastern region.

Bangladesh, however, denies these allegations, but said it would hunt down any such groups if it receives concrete intelligence about them. (ANI)
