Pak Army chief calls on Zardari
Islamabad, Feb.10 (ANI): Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani called on President Asif Ali Zardari at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Monday and reportedly discussed professional matters with him.
According to The News, the COAS briefed the president about his recent visits to Swat and Mohmand Agency, and meeting with tribal elders there.
He also briefed the president about the Army's strategy on military operation against the terrorists and extremists.
Sources said the president assured the government's complete support to the Army actions against extremists and terrorists. e appreciated the Army's role in the fight against terrorism and extremism. The president said the government's first priority was to hold dialogue, but only with those who lay down their arms.
In a separate development, British Foreign Secretary David Miliband made a telephonic call to President Zardari.
Sources said they discussed matters relating to bilateral relations, regional situation, militancy and the post-Mumbai incident situation.
It may be recalled that David Miliband during his recent visit to India had called for resolution of the long-standing Kashmir dispute to bring lasting peace to the region. (ANI)
