'I Luv u' sms replaces hand written love letters
London, Feb 10: Science and technology has also affected 'Love'. Love letters and poems might become history due to the onslaught of latest technologies.
Even romance is being brutally murdered by technology and fast pace of life, says a new UK study. The National Trust found that most pairs would rather send a cursory text message saying 'I Luv U' rather than compose a heartfelt letter or poem.
Email is also preferred over pen and paper, the survey of 2,558 people showed. According to the study, almost two-thirds (62 per cent) had never sent a love letter.
But more than two-thirds (69 per cent) had texted 'I love you' - or various abbreviations of the message - via a mobile phone, reports the Telegraph.
Andrew McLaughlin, from the National Trust, lamented: "Considering our rich history of romantic letter writers, this really does suggest that we are forgetting to make time for romance in modern Britain.
"As a country, we have produced some of the most romantic writing ever produced in any language - from Shakespeare's sonnets to touching love letters written by Winston Churchill.
"Even Charles Darwin, while he was busy formulating his theories on natural selection on board the Beagle, found time to send beautifully moving love letters to his childhood sweetheart, Fanny Mosten Owen.
"Yet now we seem to have forgotten the value of putting our innermost feelings down in writing."
