Sri Lankan crisis: Jayalalithaa not celebrate her b'day
Chennai, Feb 9: In view of the miseries faced by the Tamils in Sri Lanka, AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa announced on Sunday, Feb 8 that she would not celebrate her birthday. Her birthday falls on Feb 24.
She has called upon her partymen not to pay visit to her on her birthday, she said in a statement released. Instead she has asked them to organise various assistance programmes for the poor. Jayalalithaa said the AIADMK was for a ceasefire in Sri Lanka.
A day after Muthukumar set himself ablaze to protest the targeting of Lankan Tamils, Chennai witnessed a series of protests on Friday, Jan 30. Large number of people gathered to protest the war in Sri Lanka between the army and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam.
