New Delhi, Feb 8 (ANI): Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh sent a message to the Congress' conclave of district and block presidents at New Delhi on Sunday, encouraging his party men to meet the "political challenges that lie ahead".

Urging party cadres to actively participate in the elections, he said, "With elections round the corner, you are once again called upon to carry our party's message and the government's accomplishments to each and every voter throughout the country."

Singh, who is recuperating from his bypass surgery, sent his appreciation for Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who he said has single-handedly worked to fulfill the aspirations of a young, progressive and resurgent India.

Minister of State Prithviraj Chavan read out Dr. Singh's message at the Prime Minister's Office.

Referring to the ongoing global economic crisis, Singh assured that India "will remain on the path of inclusive economic growth."

Noting the Congress' achievements, the Prime Minister said: "Each of the government's flagship programmes and policy initiatives have helped to better the lives of the millions."

"We have remained steadfast and resolute in upholding the values of our Republic and core national interests. We have responded purposively and with speed to terrorist attacks on our nation and our values," he added.

He expressed his desire for a progressive, just, secure and happy India as envisioned by Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. (ANI)
