Citation to explain why Hashmat Khan was selected for Padma Shri: HM

New Delhi, Feb.5 (ANI): Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Thursday opted to snub the ongoing controversy regarding Kashmiri exporter Hashmat Ullah Khan by stating that the citation of Padma Shri award given to Khan in the Art category would explain the reasons behind his selection for the national honour.

"The citation will tell you. There is no controversy. ... Please let us not make a controversy when none exists," he said replying to a question on his selection even though he was not a craftsman.

Chidambaram had earlier said the committee which had cleared the Padma awardees list found him "fit" to recommend his name for the award. (ANI)
