Peshawar, Feb 2: Sher Azam Khan, personal security manager of PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, was assassinated in his native town of Khalabat in district Haripur of Morth West Frontier Province.
Khan also Finance Secretary of the party's NWFP chapter was going to his home in a car along with members of his family when some unidentified gunmen fired at the car, sources said.
As a result of the incident, Khan, his wife, two sons and a sister-in-law were injured critically. They were immediately rushed to a local hospital where Khan succumbed to his injuries, The Nation reported.
The other injured persons of his family are also in critical condition, sources added.
Meanwhile, PML-N central leaders, including Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Sahibzada Pir Sabir Shah, Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan, Capt (Retd) Safdar and Sardar Mushtaq Ahmed Khan have condemned the ruthless killing of Khan, and demanded immediate arrest of his killers.
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has also condemned the murder of the PML-N leader.
Sources said that Khan has fallen prey to the political rivalry between local PML-N and ANP leadership, which in the past too had claimed the life of former provincial minister and ANP MPA Akhtar Nawaz Khan.
The sources also added that political feud intensified between the two political families of Khalabat following the recent bye-elections for the provincial assembly seat, won by the ANP candidate and brother of the slain ANP leader, Akhtar Nawaz Khan.
