Protestors demand civilians release from LTTE

Jaffna, Feb 2: With LTTE holding civilians as hostages in Mullaittivu, thousands of ethnic Sri Lankans protested on the streets of Jaffna, Northern city of Sri Lanka.

A protestor, Jayamani Devi said, "All my family members are there. My brother, sisters, other relatives and friends. The Tigers are holding them against their will."

'The LTTE should act with a sense of humanity and release the civilians held by it to prevent casualties in the ongoing offensive of the Sri Lankan Army," a minister of the island nation said.

Sri Lankan Government is trying hard to rescue the civilians from the LTTE clutches and also hopes that the civilians will soon be released by LTTE although the 48-hour deadline has lapsed.

The LTTE is refusing to give up the battle for a cause which is not known, Sri Lankan Government sources said.
