India to ask Richard Holbrooke to freeze financial aid to Pak: Sources
New Delhi, Jan.30 (ANI): The Government of India is likely to ask the United States' Special Envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan, Richrad Holbrooke to stop giving financial aid to Pakistan during his next week visit to the region, said a top government source.
Besides, New Delhi will also tell the envoy about India's engagement in Afghanistan, said the source.
Richard Holbrooke, special envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan has a major say in Barack Obama administration's foreign policy and is critical of US aid programme toakistan.
The special envoy's visit assumes significance, as it comes at a time when the U.S. is trying to change its Pakistan-Afghanistan policy.
The US has already deducted 55 million dollars out of the 156 million dollars bill set by Pakistan for rendering its military services to fight against Taliban and Al Qaeda in volatile bordering tribal areas adjacent to war-torn Afghanistan .
Pakistan has been using the aid propping up terrorists against India and in the wake of Mumbai terror attacks, New Delhi is consistently trying to build pressure on US to freeze economic assistance to Pakistan.
Hoolbroke will be visiting South Asia after attending Munich security conference next week.
According to a top government source, New Delhi will also be naming Pakistan-based entities and individuals involved in terrorist acts in India in the United Nations and will urge the UN to ban them.
Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Maulana Masood Azhar and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim are expected to be listed by India at the UN.
"India will also push Comprehensive convention on terrorism , We are very close to implement this convention like never before," the source added .
India has also expressed its displeasure over Pakistani media reports that suggest that Islamabad has trashed Indian dossier on the Mumbai attacks and have claimed that conspiracy of the Mumbai Attack was hatched outside Pakistan.
A top government source in New Delhi said that Pakistan should come out "clean", India sees these theories as a bid to cover up the real culprits in the establishment. (ANI)
