Pranab to visit Sri Lanka on Jan 27

New Delhi, Jan 27: External Affairs Minister, Pranab Mukherjee will be visiting Sri Lanka on Tuesday, Jan 27 for two days. The military of Lanka claims to have captured the last bastion of Mullaittivu two days back.

Pranab will meet President Mahinda Rajapakse and Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama and discuss the latest situation in Sri Lanka, sources said.

In his two-day visit, Pranab is expected to hold talks on early implementation of devolution package that would ensure rights for ethnic Tamils at par with others.

Denouncing that military victory is not the solution for a peaceful Lanka, he stressed upon the need for political settlement wherein all communities will with respect including ethnic tamils.

Pranab's visit comes in the wake of strong demands by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and some other parties from the state that the External Affairs minister should visit Sri Lanka and prevail upon Rajapakse government to go for ceasefire.
