Obama's daughters 'inspire' beanie baby dolls
New York, Jan 23 (ANI): US President Barack Obama might have caused a stir worldwide with his historic win, but his daughters Malia and Sasha are not far behind - a toy company has manufactured dolls "inspired" by the first daughters.
Ty Inc., the company that makes Beanie Babies, is marketing plush dolls named "Sweet Sasha" and "Marvelous Malia."
Company officials, however, have insisted that the names were chosen because they sound beautiful and not because they are the names of the children of the first family, reports the New York Daily News.
The dolls sell for 10 dollars and the company said retailers received a limited supply earlier this month.
"There's nothing on the dolls that refers to the Obama girls," said Ty spokeswoman Tania Lundeen.
"It would not be fair to say they are exact replications of these girls. They are not," she added.
The company did not ask permission from the White House to use the names, Lundeen insisted.
The dolls have bronze skin and straight black hair.
While the Sasha doll has pigtails and wears a white and pink dress with hearts, the Malia doll has a side ponytail and a long-sleeve shirt with capri pants. (ANI)
