Hindu org demands ban on Slumdog Millionaire

Panaji, Jan 22: Accusing that film 'Slumdog Millionaire' hurts the sentiments of the majority community, the Goa unit of Hindu organisation, Hindu Janjagruti Samiti (HJS) has demanded a ban on the movie.

"Hindu Janjagruti Samiti (HJS) will approach various governments, including that in Goa, insisting the movie should not be released," Jayesh Thali, state spokesman of the group, said. "There were a few scenes in the movie that denigrated Lord Ram," he alleged.

The movie is slated for release on Friday, Jan 23. Thali said HJS delegation had met Central Board of Film Certification officials in Mumbai, demanding a ban on the film.

'Slumdog Millionaire', which tells the rags-to-riches tale of an orphan from a Mumbai slum, won four Golden Globe awards, including one for music composer A R Rahman.
