Preeta Bansal, Obama's Senior Policy Advisor

Washington, Jan 20: US President-elect Barack Obama, on Tuesday, Jan 20 appointed an Indian-American lawyer Preeta Bansal as the General Counsel and Senior Policy Advisor in the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in his administration. The appointment came hours before his swear-in ceremony.

Bansal is currently partner at a law firm Skaddan, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom LLP in the New York City. She was earlier mentioned as possible Soliciter General. She had also been a Commissioner of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, serving as Chair from 2004-05.

Preeta Bansal, a Harvard University pass out was law clerk to Justice John Paul Stevens of the US Supreme Court. She has been a Commissioner on Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Election Modernization Task Force and serves on numerous nonprofit boards.
