Vivek Paul new Satyam CEO?

New Delhi Jan 15: Who will be the next CEO of Satyam? This is the question buzzing IT sector. After Vivek Paul, former vice chairman of Wipro, has quit Texas Pacific Group (TGP) speculations have been made that he may be roped in as new CEO of Satyam Computers.

Paul resigned from Texas Pacific Group (TPG), a private equity firm where he was a partner, in December,2008 leading to the rumour that he might be picked to head the beleaguered Satyam. In fact, Paul"s name was doing the rounds as a possible buyer for Satyam after the botched attempt on Dec 16 by its now-disgraced promoter to acquire two firms run by his own family.

Before joining TPG, Paul was with Wipro. He joined in 1999 and took the company from a $150-million firm to a billion-dollar IT giant by 2005. He left Wipro as vice chairman in 2005 to join TPG. Paul, 50, is a BITS Pilani graduate and an MBA from University of Massachusetts. Born in 1959, Paul is currently on the board of Electronic Arts, the world's leading game publisher, and Elevance Renewable Sciences Inc., a leader in developing chemicals from renewable sources.

Paul also served as the CEO of GE's medical equipment joint venture in India. He has also spent time at consulting firm Bain & Co. and at PepsiCo.

Whether Paul will take Satyam's seat or not, we have wait and watch?
