French government to ban ads pitching mobiles phones to kids
London, Jan 12 (ANI): The French government is set to introduce new laws cracking down on kids' use of mobile phones amid growing fears that cell phones cause cancer and other illnesses.
Any advertisements encouraging children under 12 to use the devices are set to be banned, with warnings that children under six are particularly at risk, reports the Independent.
It will also become illegal to sell a mobile without earphones and there will be limits set on the amount of radiation that a phone is allowed to emit.
The legislation, announced by Jean-Louis Borloo, Environment Minister, represents represents the most comprehensive action yet taken by any government worldwide.
The French ministry warned that "mobile phone use is increasing at a rapid pace among youths", and warns that the young may be "more sensitive because their bodies are still developing". *(ANI)
