Save Sri Lanka Tamils fast: MK to Govt

Chennai, Dec 28: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) president M Karunanidhi, on Saturday, Dec 27 made a 'tearful' appeal to Union government to act at the earliest to save the Tamils in Sri Lanka. The DMK General Council which re-elected him as party President also passed a resolution conveying its disappointment over the delay in sending Union External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee to Sri Lanka.

Karunanidhi in his 'tearful' appeal said, " An all-party team that I had led, called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who assured us that Pranab Mukherjee would be sent to Colombo to ensure ceasefire to save Tamils. However, the Union Government is not acting fast enough to save them. With each passing minute, an innocent life is being taken."

Though he made his unhappiness over the government's delay MK said that he has faith in the UPA government and was hopful for a favourable reply.
