Israel air strikes kills 230 in Gaza Strip

Sunday, Dec 28: Ending the seven day old ceasefire Israel on Saturday, Dec 27 attacked the Hamas-run Gaza Strip, killing at least 230 people and injuring hundreds of others. Death toll is set to rise. Reports say that Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak warned Hamas saying the offensive will be 'deepen and widen.'

He said that the time for ceasefires is over and it is time to fight. Creating panic in the coastal terrirtory Israeli jets hit four key installations of Hamas. It include the
Hamas Police headquarters. Israel Defence Minister said that the Defence and security forces have been preparing for almost four months for this operation.

Meanwhile Hamas has vowed to take revenge and said it will strike back launching new rocket attacks and sending suicide bombers to Israel. Fawzi Barhoum, the Hamas Spokesperson said, "Hamas will continue the resistance until the last drop of blood." Sources say that major casualities are reported from the police headquarters and the dead include the Gaza Police Chief Maj. Gen. Tawfiq Jaber.

A statement released by the Israel Defence Force (IDF) said that the strikes are in retaliation for the rocket attacks carried out by Hamas over the weeks and vowed to extend and deepen the attacks if necessary. The statement read, "the strikes were based on precise intelligence collected during the recent months."
