Nuke proof protection for Pak VVIPs
Islamabad, Dec. 22 (ANI): To save VVIPs from any risk of nuclear, biological or chemical attack and any other severe catastrophe, the Pakistan Government is working on a proposal to build a disaster proof facility for them.
There is a proposal of Rs. eight billion facility to be constructed in the Islamabad with technical assistance from foreign experts including from Japan. This complex would withstand accidents of unprecedented nature, the Daily Times reported.
Sources said, the proposed National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) complex would house the shelter and a National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC).
The experts will create training modules, prepare management structure, impart training, facilitate public awareness activities and undertake research activities in the disaster mitigation area.
President Asif Ali Zardari has already been briefed about the proposal in a recent meeting with the National Disaster Management Authority Chairman, Farooq Ahmad Khan, paper sources have claimed.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has, supposedly, agreed in principle to allot 50 kanals of land for the project.
But the Interior Ministry has quoted, the Islamabad traffic SSP, as having expressed reservations on the proposed location of the complex in Sector G-5, which houses a number of embassies. The Traffic Office has suggested shifting the location to Sector H-12. (ANI)
