'Undetectable' suicide device to be unveiled

Melbourne, Dec 18 (ANI): Euthanasia advocate Dr Philip Nitschke is set to launch a new death device that is undetectable during an autopsy.

Nitschke said the method - which uses legally obtaining household products including a barbecue gas bottle - is "flawless" and has the unique characteristic of being undetectable which will make it harder to prove suicide.

He said a patient using the system immediately loses consciousness and dies a few minutes later, according to The Advertiser.

"So it's extremely quick and there are no drugs. Importantly this doesn't fail - it's reliable, peaceful, available and with the additional benefit of undetectability," News.com.au quoted Nitschke, as saying.

Because the products and gas cylinders used in the device are everyday household products, Nitschke said the procedure is entirely legal.

"It's hard to see how the Government could possibly restrict access to common cylinders, and certainly there's no way they could restrict access to (the gas)," he said.

"But really it's the knowledge of how to do it that's so important, it's a technique-dependent method and people have to know what they're doing," he added.

Nitschke, who has had one book banned in Australia, said he fears his website could be banned as "illegal material" when the Federal Government's new Internet filter comes into effect. (ANI)
