Court to hear Sankararaman murder case on Dec 18

Puducherry, Dec 18: Puducherry court will hear the Sankararaman murder case, on Thursday, Dec 18. Kanchi Shankaracharyas, Jayendra Saraswathi and his junior Vijayendra Saraswathi are the main accused.

When the case came for hearing before Principal and District and Session Judge of Puducherry D Krishnaraja on Nov 21 only 12 were present out of the 24 accused. The two main accused Kanchi Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi and junior seer Vijayendra Saraswathi were the absentee.

The Judge listened to the special public prosecutor N Devadoss and the defence counsel and fixed Dec 18 the date for next hearing.

Jayendra Saraswathi was granted a special leave petition by the apex court on July 22 with the purpose to appoint a Public Prosecutor from Puducherry to conduct the trial.

Sankararaman, Managing Trustee of the Lord Varadaraja Perumal temple at Kancheepuram, was murdered on Sep 3, 2004, allegedly at the behest of the accused.
