Islamabad, Dec.14 (ANI): Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) senators on Saturday filed an adjournment motion in the Pakistani Senate against the government's decision to ban the Jamaat-ud-Daawa (JuD).

"After its diplomatic failure at the UN, the government of Pakistan has also opted to ban this one of the most committed and highly-professional charity organisation," The News quoted JI senators as saying in their adjournment motion filed at the Senate Secretariat.

They said that after the ex-parte proceedings against Pakistan, the UN Security Council had banned certain charity organisations of Pakistan, including the Jamaat-ud-Daawa.

The motion further stated that a countrywide crackdown had been launched and all activities of human assistance had been stopped. Dozens have been arrested without any evidence or even specific accusations.

"This is a matter of urgent national importance. We, therefore, beg to move that the normal business of the house be suspended to discuss this matter," the motion concluded.

The adjournment motion was signed by Senators Khurshid Ahmed, Ibrahim Khan, Dr Kausar Firdous, Dr Saaid and Aafya Zia.(ANI)
