IMA passing out ceremony held amid high security

Dehradun, Dec 13: The passing out ceremony of Indian Military Academy (IMA) was held on Saturday, Dec 13 here. Following the Nov 26 Mumbai terror attacks heavy security arrangements were made this time around IMA for the parade. the D-day for all the passing cadres was witnessed by Cheif of Army Staff Gen. Deepak Kapoor.

Since Friday, Dec 11 the 76 year old institution has increased security for the ceremony. Police personnel were deployed in large numbers. Such is the threat perception this time that police officials are not divulging any details of deployment and measures taken to prevent any untoward incident. Several checkposts have been erected in the state capital, including on the outskirts of the city and a checking drive is on round the clock. The IMA has been on terrorists' radar in the past also.

A terrorist was arrested from Prem Nagar locality near IMA in 2005, a few days before the passing out parade and an entry pass was recovered from him. While the police are responsible for securing the outside of the Academy, the Army is taking care of security arrangements inside.

When asked about giving special training to cadets in the wake of Mumbai terror attacks, IMA Commandant Lt. Gen. Rajendra Singh Sujlana said the cadets are given adequate training.
