Mumbai attack: Mourners bid farewell to Sydney terror victim

Sydney, Dec.11 (ANI): Hundreds of mourners bid farewell to Sydney resident Douglas Markell, who was shot and killed in last month's terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

The 71-year-old former Woollahra councillor was gunned down in front of his wife Allison, who was also injured in the corridor of the Taj Mahal Hotel, as they tried to flee the attackers.

Markell's son David told mourners at the St Stephen's Uniting Church in Macquarie Street in central Sydney that his father was a kind, patient and generous man.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, David said his father respected opposing views and did not believe in violence.

"Dad respected the value of life ... he didn't have a violent or angry bone in his body," David said in his eulogy.

Allison Markell had shrapnel removed from her arm but still has a small fragment in her wrist. (ANI)
