Mickey Rourke tipped for indie film honour
London, December 4 : Mickey Rourke has been nominated for the 'best actor' category at Hollywood's leading Spirit Awards for his comeback performance in the upcoming movie 'The Wrestler'.
The 'Angel Heart' actor, who had been trained as a boxer in his early years and had had a short stint as a pro fighter in the 1990s, had starred alongside , Ernest Miller, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood in the film directed by Darren Aronofsky.
The sports drama, which won the Golden Lion Award for Best Film, has also been put forward for the best feature award, reports BBC.
Rourke plays Randy "Ram" Robinson, a professional wrestler from the 1980s who is drawn to the prospect of a rematch with his old wrestling nemesis even though the fight may cost him his life.
The Spirit award ceremony, by Film Independent, a non-profit US organisation that promotes independent filmmaking, is scheduled to be held on February 21 next year.
