Kerala CM stranded for two hours before offer condolence

Bangalore, Nov 30: Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today had to face embarrassing moments before he offer condolence to the parents of slain National Security Guard Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan in the city tonight.

Kerala Chief Minister, who had arrived to city along with his Cabinet colleague, Home Minister K Balakrishnan had to wait for over two hours at the Bangalore International Airport as parents of Major Sandeep were reluctant to meet any politician.

Mr Achuthanandan, who was escorted to the house of NSG Major, however had to face hard reception from K Unnikrishnan, father of the commando and a former ISRO employee, who was adamant not to allow Kerala CM to enter his premises.

Taken aback with the kind of reception he had got, the Chief Minister however managed to enter into the house and offered floral tribute to the portrait of slain NSG Major amid the outburst of K Unnikrishnan.

State CPI(M) Secretariat Member Prasanna Kumar, who was also accompanied Mr Achuthanandan, told UNI that they also met Smt Dhanalakshmi, mother of NSG Major and condoled for the demise of great soldier who had made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.

Home Minister Balakrishnan also paid homage to the departed soldier and garlanded the portrait, he added.

Earlier Mr K Unnikrishnan had stated that he will not receive any politician who would come to his house to pay homage to his son. '' My son does not belong to just Kerala, he only fought for the nation,'' he said. He also threatened to commit suicide if any politician try to visit his house forcibly.

He and his wife have been in deep mourning after having lost their only child. The family had also reportedly refuses to answer a telephonic call from Union Defence Minister A K Antony in the morning.
