Hard-fought wins for Jalandhar, Kapurthala
Chandigarh, Nov 29 (UNI) Jalandhar prevailed over Muktsar by 2-1 in the 30th Punjab State Junior (Under-19) Football Championship at the Khadoor Sahib Football Stadium, Khadoor Sahib, Taran Tarn District today.
In a well-contesting match, Jalandhar forged ahead in the fourth minute through Pana Lal. They kept this slender lead intact till the 45th minute when Bhagat Singh neutralised the lead for Muktsar.
Jalandhar clinched the match-winner through Amanpreet who struck in the 60th minute.
Barnala outplayed Amritsar as the former recorded a 3-0 victory.
Rajdeep put Barnala ahead in the 25th minute and Kulwinder Singh doubled the margin in the 54th minute. Beant Singh rounded off the winners' tally in the 80th minute.
Kapurthala also scored a hard-fought 2-1 verdict against Fatehgarh Sahib in the third match of the day. Kapurthala opened their account in the 10th minute through Guriqbal while Gurswak Singh restored parity for Fatehgarh Sahib with a fine goal in the 47th minute. Kapurthala mouned pressure and netted the winner through Malkiat Singh in the 72nd minute.
Taran Tarn proved too good for Mansa by 4-0. The highlight of the match was three goals, no hat-trick, by Gurjant Singh who struck in the 4th, 65th and 72nd minutes. In between Gursewak scored in the 68th minute.
In another match, Faridkot prevailed over Nawanshahr by 6-5 in the tie-breaker session after the teams played a goalless draw in the stipulated period.
