Security in coastal region to be beefed up
Mangalore, Nov 28 (UNI) Following the Mumbai attacks by the terrorists, the security on the 350 km coastline covering three districts of Daxina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada had been beefed up.
A high level meeting of security agencies, attended by top officials from police, Coast Guard, CISF, New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) and other important stake holders yesterday here have decided to have a joint patrolling in shallow waters with the help of Coast Guard and CISF boats, the sources said.
The meeting took decision to take the help of aircraft to carry out deep sea water patrolling by Coast Guard with its vessels from Mangalore to Karwar.
The meeting took the decision that local police would launch round the clock surveillance of all minor ports including Malpe Fisheries Port near Udupi to intercept any vessels or boats of suspicious nature along the coast while the NMPT would take up perimeter patrolling.
The meeting had also asked the Old Mangalore Port authorities here to issue identify cards (Smart Cards) to all fishing boats. To intensify and complete the security surveillance process by December 31, the meeting also sought the cooperation by the Coastal Police Security Force.
