Multi-pronged strategy to combat terror in Bengal
Kolkata, Nov 28 (UNI) Instilling confidence among the masses in the backdrop of the Mumbai terror attacks, the West Bengal government today started implementation of a multi-pronged strategy to thwart any possible terrorist strikes in the state with special focus on the ''City of Joy''.
Official sources here said under the strategy, to be adopted across the state, Kolkata Police teams commenced visit to top hotels and hospitals in the city to assess the prevailing security measures in the aftermath of two of the most prestigious hotels and one hospital being targeted, among others, by militants in Mumbai.
The police teams would also visit the schools, colleges, universities and other educational institutions spread across the city to check implementation of the security advisory, the sources said, adding the process would be extended later to other districts, specially the bordering ones.
The check of security guidelines in hotels and hospitals came a day after city Police Commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakraborty said police would soon visit such places to inquire whether cent per cent implementation of the advisories were being complied with.
''Police teams will soon visit hotels and hospitals to assess the security measures. If we find that they are not following the security advisory, we may cancel their licence,'' Mr Chakraborty observed.
''We have well laid our security rules and regulations for hotels and hospitals. We will take action against those flouting the norms,'' he maintained.
According to reports, the security advisory was not being fully followed in some city hotels and hospitals.
