SC notices to Centre for pictorial warning on cigarette packets
New Delhi, Nov 27 (UNI) The Supreme Court today issued notices to the Union Government on a petition seeking directions to it to implement its notification regarding display of pictorial warning on cigarette packets.
A bench comprising Justices B N Agarwal and G S Singhvi issued notices after hearing senior counsel Indira Jaisingh, who contended that the government has taken decision twice to order the companies to display such warnings that smoking is injurious to health, but it was repeatedly deferred.
While on the one hand, the government has banned smoking in public places, on the other hand, it has been dragging its feet on the implementation of the notification of pictorial warnings.
