Pondy administration assesses damages caused by 'Nisha'
Puducherry, Nov 27 (UNI) The Puducherry administration has estimated the damages in the rain caused by the cyclonic storm ''Nisha'' to the tune of Rs 100 crore, Chief Minister V Vaithilingam said here today.
Talking to newspersons after a high level offical meeting, he said the estimate would be sent to the Centre requesting to send a team to assess the damages.
The administration would seek central funds to undertake rehabilitation works, he added.
He said the supply of food to the affected people would continue till tomorrow evening. All schools and colleges here would remain closed till November 30.
Stating that 50 per cent of the electricity problem being faced by Karaikal region has been solved, he said power and drinking water problems of Puducherry region would be solved tonight or by tomorrow.
Priority would be given to the restoration of power and water supply in residential areas, he added.
