Mumbai terror strikes: High security in place in Tamil Nadu
Chennai, Nov 27 (UNI) Heightened security was put in place in Tamil Nadu in the wake of the terror strikes in Mumbai which claimed more than 100 lives.
Police sources said the Centre had issued a general alert to all states, including Tamil Nadu, after the terrorist attacks in Mumbai last night.
''Following this we have tightened up the security arrangements in the state,'' the sources added.
Police pickets were the erected in all vital installations. All the hotels had also tightened security, following the attack on Taj and Oberoi hotels in Mumbai.
Security was also tightened in central and Egmore railway stations here, bus stations, shopping malls and in places where people congregate in large numbers.
Metal detectors were installed in railway stations and the baggage of every passenger was being subjected to a thorough check.
Police have increased their personnel in all check posts in the city. All the vehicles entering the city were also being checked thoroughly.
All places of worship and temples also came under security scanner.
Senior police officials visited various star hotels to review the security arrangements.
Five Star hotels in the city, which have their own security measures, had beefed up security.
A spokesperson of the ITC-owned Park Sheraton Hotels and Towers told UNI that the hotel management has enhanced security.
''We have made all arrangements to take care of our guests.
The baggages of all the guests arriving in the hotel are being scanned and checked'', the spokesperson said.
The Hotel management has its own security drill and additional personnel were deployed at all the entry and exit points of the hotel. ''We are also working very closely with the local police, who visited the Hotel yesterday night and also this morning,'' the spokesperson added.
Similarly, security had been beefed in all five star hotels like Taj Coromandel, Taj Connemara, Chola Sheraton, Le Royal Meridian, Trident and Radisson.
