76 killed, 250 injured in night long Mumbai terrorist attacks
Mumbai, Nov 27 (UNI) At least 76 people, including nine foreigners and 11 policemen, were killed and 250 others wounded when terrorists went on a shooting spree in ten places, mostly south Mumbai, last night.
Unconfirmed reports, however, put the toll at 82, including four terrorists, who were gunned down in police and commando operations.
Even as the city was waking after a shocking nightmare, combined operations by the Army, Navy and commandoes of the National Security Guards were on at the two five star hotels -- The Taj Palace and the Trident -- where terrorists were holding nearly 60 people as hostages.
The more than a century old landmark hotel, Taj Mahal, was set on fire by the terrorists, who were currently holed up in the fifth floor of the building.
Throughout the night, a constant vigil was on and exchange of fire continued between the forces and terrorists and in one such instance, two terrorists were killed and a commando was injured.
