Study on new dam in Mullaperiyar begins in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 26: Kerala Water Resources Minister N K Premachandran told the State Assembly on Wednesday, Nov 26 that the government had begun a preliminary study about the possibility of constructing a new dam to replace the century-old dam at Mullaperiyar in Idukki district.

In a written reply to Mr K C Venugopal(Cong), he said administrative sanction had been given for Rs 1.32 crore for the study.

Detailed estimate of the new dam could be possible only after completing the study.
