Pondy: NGO's help needed to keep UT clean
Puducherry, Nov 26: Puducherry Lt Governor Govind Singh Gurjar has invited NGOs to join hands with the government to make the Union Territory clean and green.
Inaugurating a vermi compost yard built by "Suddham," an organisation involved in solid waste management here yesterday, Mr Gurjar said government alone can not make the Union Territory garbage-free.
Maintaining the surroundings clean and green should be the collective responsibility of all citizens, he said, adding that the success of any civic initiative depended on the involvement and cooperation of the residents.
A massive awareness campaign would be organised to spread information on segregation of garbages at source, he said.
Public Health Minister A Namasivayam and legislator S P Sivakumar, among others participated in the function.
