Congress alleges BSP-BJP nexus in assembly poll

New Delhi, Nov 26 (UNI) Accusing the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) of 'hobnobbing' with the BJP, the Congress today said there was alliance between the two parties internally in the assembly elections in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

"There is a nexus between the BSP and the BJP as the entire interests of both the parties were to hurt the Congress in the elections," Union Minister and AICC National Media Committee Covener Kapil Sibal told mediapersons.

He said the BJP was sending its workers to the rallies of Mayawati to create an impression about her strength in Delhi and elsehwere and thereby fooling the electorate.

Mr Sibal said BSP supremo Mayawati was coming closer to BJP to get its help in the disproportionate asset case against her.

Accusing BJP leader L K Advani of 'selective conscience,' he wondered why he was speaking only for the alleged torture of Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, an accused in the Malegaon blast case, while similar accusation had been made by all the accused.

Referring to the BJP's campaign in the Delhi assembly elections, he charged the BJP with reeling out 'misleading statistics' about the Sheila Dikshit government to fool the electorate.

"The BJP believes that this web of lies, oft-repeated, can develop a truthful flavour," Mr Sibal said, while pointing out that "this is geobellian propaganda unleashed by the BJP." Saying that the "Mehangi Padi Congress" campaign of the BJP suffered from fundamental flaws, he said the prices of commodities were taken at random without reference either to a time-frame or quality or the variety of products within the commodity.

He said the misleading advertisements made no reference to the process of either kerosene or vegetables as it did not suit them.

Mr Sibal said the Congress had always ensured that products and agricultural produce for the common man were available to him at affordable and subsidised prices. Instead, the BJP indulged in propagating the prices of steel and cement, knowing fully well of the global trends in these commodities.
