'Cancel truck license if found smuggling sand'
Coimbatore: Smuggling of sand to Kerala has been taken up by the officials and the Collector conducted a coordination meeting of officials from the revenue, transport, commercial taxes, police and forest departments for combating the sand smuggling racket.
District Collector V Palanikumar said that steps would be taken to cancel truck permit and driving licence if trucks were caught attempting to smuggle sand to Kerala.
Mr. Palanikumar said according to GO MS No 158 of August 25, 2008 smuggling of sand to Kerala was banned. From August 25, 2008 to November 23, 2008, a total of 245 sand-laden trucks have been seized and after inquiry by Revenue Divisional Officers 220 trucks were imposed a fine of Rs. 60.78 lakh while proceedings were in progress in respect of 25 trucks.
