Agitators lock KMC office, 21 detained

Kolhapur, Nov 26 (UNI) Protesting against the inadequate drinking water supply of Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) and alleged negligence of concerned officers towards the suburban areas, local women locked the main gate of KMC office here today.

Earlier around 0830 hrs, local women, led by city corporator Haridas Sonawane, marched to the Jawaharnagar water supply office, demanding regular supply of drinking water. However, no officer met the agitating women, hence women locked the office from outside.

Later, the agitators marched to the Kalamba water filter house, where they staged dharna infront of the office and locked the office after water supply officers refused to meet them.

Then the agitators took out a morcha and locked the gate of the KMC main building.

Police officers on duty, infront of the KMC office, detained about 20 women and Mr Sonawane, police sources added.
