Pitroda visualises fibre tec with ICT capabilities for all
Ahmedabad, Nov 25 (UNI) National Knowledge Commission chairman Sam Pitroda has said fibre technology in every home with all kinds of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) capabilities was his vision for the country.
Speaking at the IIM-A Confluence 2008 during the weekend, Dr Pitroda, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of World-Tel, an international telecommunication union initiative, said ICT capabilities, ranging from Video conferencing to virtual reality, should be accessible to all.
Underscoring the predominance of ICT in all walks of life, Dr Pitroda said telecom is not about telephones, it is about restructuring the society. ''The telecom revolution has created wealth, jobs, improved productivity and empowered people,'' he opined. Dr Pitroda, whose pioneering vision played a crucial role in India's telecom revolution, also described some of the challenges his team faced as they laid the foundation for India's progress in the telecom sector in the 1980s.
