Ensure peace for tripartite talks: WB Home Secy
Siliguri, Nov 25: West Bengal Home Secretary (HS) Ashok Mohan Chakraborty on Tuesday, Nov 25 asked the Darjeeling Administration to ensure peace and security for the tripartite talks on demand for carving a separate state Gorkhaland.
Official sources here said the second phase of the tripartite talks among representatives of the Centre, West Bengal government and Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) representatives and other outfits in the hills will be held soon to resolve the issue.
Speaking at a meeting with IG, North Bengal, K L Tamta, IG, Intelligence Bureau, North Bengal, Gaurav Dutta, DIG Darjeeling D T Lepcha and district administrations of Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri at the circuit house here, he urged the various outfits in the hills, including the GJM, to maintain peace before the tripartite meeting for constructive discussion on the issue.
He also lambasted the agitators in the region, who were disrupting development work like road construction, undertaken by the state government.
Mr Chakraborty urged the Gorkha leaders to play a constructive role for the development of their homeland and not misuse human resources for politically motivated interests.
